Take This Job and Shove IT!

On Monday JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater did what all working stiffs have wanted to do at least once. He asked for respect on the job, and when none was forthcoming, Slater walked --or more precisely, he slid off the job. The JetBlue flight attendant got into an argument with a passenger on a jetliner arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday, after the passenger's luggage hit Slater in the head. Slater asked for an apology, and the passenger refused. One news account says the passenger was taking his luggage out while the plane was landing, contrary to airline policy.  As the plane landed, Slater got on the public address system, cussed out the passenger, collected a severance beer from the galley and then deployed an emergency exit slide, whereby he left the plane.

Slater was arrested at his nearby home in the Belle Harbor section of Queens by Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police on charges of criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing. JetBlue Airways Corp. said in a statement that at no time was there any danger to the crew members or to its customers.

What about that passenger? Assault with a suitcase, sounds like. If it was an accident, why not apologize. The flight attendant was just doing a job and the job description doesn't include assault and battery by luggage. Jeesh--your suitcase hits a guy --you know that's WRONG, he could have been injured--so just friggin' say "sorry" to the guy. But no.

Oh, you can't relate? You'd never walk off the job or cuss out a customer. Please. What are you, a son of a CEO who inherited the job? Come on now--think back to that first job at Mickie Dee's or Taco Hell. You know you wanted to throw down your greasy apron and walk more than once. Or even your nice clean office job with Rule Nazi the boss and the idiotic calls you answer all day....makes you want to holler.

Workers of the world, raise your beer glasses to Steven Slater, a working class hero.
